The "infantilisation" of smokers

There's an excellent article in the Telegraph blog today regarding the "infantilisation" of smokers.

It does a great job in tackling head-on the patrician, nanny-statists who believe it is government's job to regulate our personal preferences and tinker with our freedoms.

"Having already banished smokers from public places – usually on to the streets – the Government now plans to turn them into pariahs, who must furtively request the fuel for their addiction from under the counter. This is precisely the kind of heavy-handed paternalism for which the last government was rightly castigated by those now in office themselves"

I gave up smoking over 4 years ago, but if this nanny state government keep telling me I can't do this and I can't do that......Then I might start smoking again just to prove them wrong. These fat tory bastards are just grinding the electorate into the ground whilst they live high off the hog. Time for the tooting popular front methinks!!!

And you honestly thought you voted for change Eh? what change? THEY ALL THE DAMN SAME! as soon as you have learned this you'd probably start voting for someone OUTSIDE the major 3 parties for once!

Body scanners "rotting" in the basement of the European Parliament In the days following the terrible attacks of 9/11, the reaction of governments around the world was to implement a range of poorly judged anti-terrorist legislation in the spirit of "making us safer". Meanwhile, over in Brussels, the European Parliament responded to the attacks in its own, unique way; by ordering six body scanners at a cost of €116,000. They were delivered to the European Parliament buildings in 2005. An investigation by feisty West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire has, however, revealed that the scanners remain unused in the basement of the Parliament following privacy concerns on the part of MEPs....
