Details have emerged of a £2 million Department of Work and Pensions tender to find a company able to source biographical and other background information about online benefit claimants.
Crucially, the "chosen supplier will provide biographical data to supplement information already available to the department", indicating that such a supplier would not simply be linking up existing databases in the pursuit of so-called "joined up government".
