Brian Kennish has left Google to launch Disconnect, a broswer extension for Chrome that disables third party tracking online. After the successful development and deployment of Facebook Disconnect back in October, Brian has decided to work on this project full time in order to "...help web users better understand the data they’re unintentionally sharing and develop tools that make it simple for them to control this data..."
Disconnect allows the user to block and unblock data tracking requests while browsing online. Though it only works in Chrome and Rockmelt currently, Firefox and Safari versions are in the works. This is a great step in the right direction for personal data management online and it will be interesting to see how the program develops in the new year.
