This week's Watchdog carried a brilliant bit of protesting from BBW's favourite bikers:
You'll note that in their response Westminster Council explicitly claims that these cars can park on double yellows...
(and you'll note that the *ahem, uncredited* £7 million stat is extracted from our report)
By Alex Deane
I thought the reason for double yellow lines was two-fold
One, in areas where it was dangerous to be parked in a certain area and two, where it stopped traffic from flowing.
If this is the case, Westminster Council are either conceding that the real reason for double yellow lines is to raise revenue, or (b) they don't care if their own cars cause accidents or stop the traffic flowing.
Which is it please Westminster Council?
Ampers.

Just for information, after the video that was featured on Watchdog we were out again last Saturday. Here's a speeded up vid of the day along with the conversation we had with the police when the SmartCar drivers tried to get them to stop us : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QNfeL71ojg
The police response was basically was don't drive too close and have a good day. We followed the cars back to their base and loitered for a bit but they didn't want to come out and play again.
As Ampers says, their actions do seem to discredit the very Traffic Orders that suggested that these yellow lines were needed in the first place.
My concern is why they are so worried about being witnessed doing what they are doing, if they were acting morally and legally you would have thought that they would have no problem with being seen in action, so you can only surmise that they think they are doing somethng wrong.

Someone needs to set up an RTA where illegal parking was the cause. Then its irrelevant whether a corrupt council decides who to fine or let go. After all, with a parking fine they will be fining themselves which is merely spinning paperwork around without generating any revenue.
Insurance paying out or not, if they are guilty, they pay. The best trick will be to hold the court proceedings in a completely independent town because we know the system protects itself..
