News from Carlisle via the News and Star:
Staffing problems have led to the CCTV control room that watches for crime and violence in Carlisle being left empty during a string of night shifts.
Difficulties at the city council mean six shifts where workers would have looked out for trouble in the city – as well as Longtown and Brampton – have not been covered.
As we've seen so often before (indeed, we've got a whole category devoted to it) - law enforcement throws funds at this technology which then can't be spent elsewhere, policing becomes dependent on that technology, and it promptly fails.

Lag doesn't exactly matter for buffered streaming media. Once the bits are flowing, the fact that they're delayed by half a second or so won't make any difference as long as there's enough bandwidth to keep the buffer ahead of playback.
