The very fact that we have organisations with such Orwellian names as the "Independent Safeguarding Authority" or the "Criminal Records Bureau" says it all, I think.
New Labour even renamed Her Majesty's Stationery Office (a perfectly good name) to the Office of Public Sector Information (pure Orwell if ever I've seen it).
One wonders whether Gordon understands that 1984 is not to be taken as an operations manual?
