It appears that the details of quarter of a million football fans who brought World Cup tickets have been stolen and sold - possibly to criminal gangs. The stolen information includes passport details and dates of birth.
One of the really shocking things about this is that it's data from the *2006* World Cup! So, either this data was stolen four years ago and we're only just hearing about it - or the data has been retained for four years after the end of the competition! Either way, it's outrageous.
What's the betting that no-one will get anything more than a slap on the wrist for this? Or that lessons will be learned for how the 2010 data is managed...
